CHI KUNG
Chi Kung has an important connection with philosophy and is very helpful, if not essential, in meditation. It aids the different organs and various other parts of the body, and practising the Chi Kung basic within Kung Fu forms helps to master the movements and unlock the hidden energy. Chi Kung is also helpful in preventing the dispersion of energy and facilitates contact with the 'Natural Energy,' making the energy within the body circulate and thus increasing resistance against illness.
There are three levels of Chi Kung: 1. Five Elements
2. Twelve Meridians 3. Three Treasures In the first level, you strive to purify the Five Basic Energies. This is why there are five movements - each movement represents an energy corresponding to one of the Five Elements: Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. The movements of Five Elements Chi Kung work by massaging the organs, provoking the circulation of energy and strengthen the Five Basic Energies.
The second level attempts to make the energy reach deep within every part of the body in order to cleanse them of impurities and malignancies. This is why you study the Twelve Meridians. In this second level, the body becomes healthy, warding off sickness. You also become aware of any conditions that may arise within your body. The third level reaches the 'Natural Body,' the 'Natural Spirit,' and the 'Natural Energy.' these are the Three Treasures. The body, like a child, communicates with the Natural Spirit, and the Energy maintains the unity of the Spirit until the moment of death, at which time it helps it reach another level. Any Martial Arts movement or meditation needs Chi Kung; Chi Kung means "energy", (Chi) and "work" (Kung), which translates as the work of energy. Chi Kung can be done by extracting movements out of a form and practising them separately, making a part of the form easier to perfect.
